I have now just about completed my migration from WIndows to SAM. The only rmaining problem is the printer .. I have an Epson DX4400 all-in-one unit that worked fine in Windows.

I am not yet familiar with the way that Linux handles printing, but presumably I need an appropriate drive - I certainly need the printing and scanning software. Three questions spring immediately to mind ..

1. Are drivers/software available for this unit fo Linux (I couldn't find anything relevant on the Epson website) ?

2. If they are available, where can I get them?

3. How do I go about installing them? (as a total beginner to Linux I would appreciate fairly complete instructions - treat me as an idiot!)

Thanks
Please use synaptic with enabled section testing of ibiblio.org repo,
search for Epson and read the Packages - Descriptions , and see there:

Please read this site and all .pdf files there, is this what for you?
I think the drivers for DX 4200 oder 4500 should work also with your AiO-Device.

it is passed, i make rpms for you and sam, the suggests rpm on this site, i not know, if works correctly under sam, so i will recompile and build rpm new.
Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm getting a little out of my depth here. I have both PIPS and CUPS installed, together with a driver for an Epson scx4450 (this is not my printer - I have a DX4400 - but the driver is supposed to cover both models, along with several others). This appears to work as I can print and have access to the printer's settings via CUPS.

However, I can't get the scanner function to work. When I run XSane I get an error "no devices available" when logged on either as a user or root.

Anyone got any further suggestions please?
