The Sam Linux Team announces its first release of SAM Linux 2009 without Nico.
The distribution is based on PCLinuxOS 2009.1 but it will be the last release based on PCLinuxOS.
The release should also be seen as a farwell to our former teamleader Nico Reuter.

The most important changes are the upgrade to kernel version 2.6.26.8, XFCE 4.6.1, support of a variety of WLAN hardware out there and support of the MSI Wind Netbook architecture.
Minor changes include the upgrade of all packages up to the date 18.July 2009 and the use of opera as Emailtool instead of Thunderbird.

Sam 2009 is made fully compatible to the PCLinuxOS repositories. In the process of changing from PCLinuxOS to a distribution still unannounced we will stop hosting our own PCLinuxOS based repository but we will keep up the support for Sam Linux 2009 as long as it is in use by our community.

The Iso was put up three weeks ago for open betatesting but hadn´t to undergo another change. You can find it here: ftp://ftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/sam/iso/ or in the other repos you can download the new iso. More later. (Or use the download section on our homepage for navigation)
Congratulations. Elements of this new version?
What do you mean by Elements?
Please download the ISO and have a look. I am not sure what you want to know.
Innovations of this version?
Already I have lowered it and it(she) is very good
We have put in xfce 4.6 from pclos and made an backup to the status 18.7. 2009 of the programs.

I burned a copy, and ran it live, and liked it very much, but it would not install correctly to my hard drive. I have used PClinuxOS for some time, but I much prefer the XFCE4 desktop, so I was hoping this would be good for me. All I got after attempting to install was a failed version of PClinux live. This isn't my first rodeo either, so I am very familiar with burning and installing many, many different distros. More than 25, or 30 I would guess by now. It's really too bad too because I like this one very much, but for some reason the installer isn't functioning like it should. Draklive didnt behave as it does with PClinuxOS. Thought I should pass my experience along . Good luck with it.

Hi Ron G,
welcome in the forum. I don't understand which problem you face. Did you try to install on a PCLOS partition without formatting it? This could cause a problem you describe. You have to format the partition where SAM should be installed in. That is the only reason I can imagine just now. Hoping that helps you.
Thanks SAM Team for new SAM release. It's fine! What is a new system base for next SAM distribs? And what is hapend with Nico?
WBW, THANKS !!! Wink
Good Luck!

No it was a clean formatted partition. ext3. I will give it another go soon. I was distracted here at work, so I may have missed something, but I like the distro very much from what I have seen. I will let you know how it goes after I get some time to try again.
This time I will pay more attention, and I will format my partition before I even put the disk in the drive to boot up the live cd.
Thanks for the reply.

Edit: I got it installed ok with no problems, by using the installer in the toolbox. I used, incorrectly, the installer that is in the "system> gtk live install". Maybe that was the problem before. Now I have encountered a problem with updating through synaptic. I get the following message: "E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages." I haven't got a clue as to make this right.

Thanks, Ron G

Edit: I found and repaired the broken package, and the updates are installing as I type this. So far so good. I will post any further updates if needed. Thanks again,
Ron G
